Best idle and incremental games we reviewed

Idle games played for days, not minutes, sorted by whether the numbers are worth watching.

What incremental games are

Idle games, also called incremental or clicker games, are built around progress that continues while you are not playing. You tap to start, buy upgrades that do the tapping for you, and come back later to find the numbers have grown. The hook is the planning in between: which upgrade pays off first, when to reset for a permanent bonus, how to prepare for the next wall.

Most are free on Android and iOS and make their money from ads and gem packs, which is why the same idea can be great or unplayable depending on how a game handles those. On PC the genre is having a second life through Steam demos that mix idle progress with roguelike runs or autobattles. We have played both kinds, and the top five below is where to start.

Our top 5

  1. Medieval - Idle Prayer

One of the most original idle games on mobile, as long as you can live with a slow, repetitive middle.

Android · iOS · Play it
  2. Dig-Dig Rush

Chaos disguised as a mining game, and it works: generous, addictive and completely overloaded, as long as calm is not what you came for.

Android · iOS · Play it
  3. Bounty Bash

A lively idle pirate battler: flashy fights, a steady stream of loot, and real progress without spending a cent.

Android · iOS · Play it
  4. Orc Incremental

An incredibly addictive idle-roguelike loop already in the free demo - a must-try for idle fans, with a few rough edges left to fix.

    PC · Play it
  5. Idle Obelisk Miner

Deep, generous, and ad-free - a strong pick for idle fans, even if the pixel art will not win everyone over.

    Android · iOS · Maybe

How we judge incremental games

Idle games are the easiest genre to make badly. The loop is numbers going up while you are away, so a studio can ship one in a month, wrap it in an ad after every tap and call it done. Most of the ones we tried are exactly that. The good ones hide something to decide behind the numbers: a build to plan, a prestige to time, a boss that needs the right setup.

Every review here comes from playing the game for days, not minutes, because an idle game shows its real shape only after the first prestige. We check three things above all: whether progress continues without paying, whether the ads are optional or forced, and whether there is anything to do once the early rush of upgrades slows down.

Most of these are on Android and iOS. The PC ones are Steam demos we keep going back to. Games marked Play it are worth installing today. Maybe means a good loop with a real problem attached, usually monetization. Skip it means we uninstalled it and so should you.

What we check

  • Progress keeps moving without paying
  • Ads are optional, never forced
  • Something to decide after the first prestige
