Survival games on mobile are nothing new. Silent Forest: Survive tries to stand out with an eerie atmosphere and an art style lifted straight from Don’t Starve, and for a while it works. Then it crashes. Then it crashes again. The short answer: there is a fun game in here, but it needs serious polishing and a lot fewer ads before I could tell you to install it.
What Silent Forest gets right
The loop is basic stuff. Gather resources, build defenses, survive waves of enemies, repeat. Nothing you have not seen before, but it is fun, and the progression is what made me keep playing. You don’t just boost stats. Your character evolves visually with every upgrade, picking up a new skin and extra bonuses along the way, so you can actually see how far you have come.
The atmosphere is solid too. Dark woods, ambient sounds that add real tension, and the bat noises are surprisingly convincing. I especially liked those. Small thing, but it sells the mood.

Where it falls apart
Movement. The controls can be clunky and sometimes just don’t respond, which is a real problem in a game about not getting caught by a wave.
Worse, the game crashed multiple times during my playthrough. And there is a bug that traps you on a wave with no way forward until you force your own death to move on. That is the kind of thing that makes you close the app and forget about it, and it is exactly why Silent Forest cannot compete with more polished survival titles right now.
The ads
Monetization is very ad heavy. You are forced to watch an ad before matches. Unlocking extra weapons often means another ad. Want to double your rewards? Ad. The in-app purchases, to be fair, are relatively reasonable compared to some other mobile games, so it is not a hard paywall. It is just a lot of waiting through video.
Should you play it?
If the Don’t Starve look pulls you in and you can live with crashes and ad breaks, there is a solid foundation here: fun mechanics, great atmosphere, and character progression you can actually see. Everyone else should wait for an update. Silent Forest: Survive is a promising survival game that just isn’t living up to its potential yet.
